New Event Alert : My Workforce Is Engaged – So What?

We’re very pleased to announce our first event for 2019 where we’ll be looking at the topic of Employee Engagement.

At a recent town hall monthly meeting forum, where the great and the good were gathered to review financial results, new customer wins, marketing drives and such, the HR leader got their turn and the engagement scores came up. An exotic looking powerpoint slide showed the “engagement score” moving from 6.2 to 7.0 and we all whooped, clapped and cheered at our progress – and then some looked around and briefly thought “am I sure I am 0.8% more engaged than last month?” – but before that thought could gain traction, we were off into another agenda item…(celebrating people’s birthdays in the team but at least there was cake!)

A leadership IQ survey (A Mark Murphy company) of 3,000 HR Executives took a quiz on “How good is your employee engagement survey?” and worryingly only 22% of Companies are getting good results

Why are scores so low? The prevailing view is that most companies have the mistaken belief that the purpose of an employee engagement survey is to measure employee engagement. It’s not, the purpose of conducting a survey is to actually improve employee engagement.

So it’s a measuring stick you use when you know somethings wrong and you need to look at remedies

And measuring means you are going to do something about it! In the survey mentioned above 58% of Managers don’t take any meaningful action

So who has done something about it and has a story to tell?

At the recent CIPD Wales Awards, great stories came to the fore where the actions taken around people have had a profound effect on engagement and its these stories that are missing from the town hall session I mentioned above

Simply put, the HR team did something about it
